Hazleton Man Rafael Mateo Dies in Schuylkill Motorcycle Accident near Route 61 and Darkwater Lane
Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania (August 24, 2018) – A rider was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and at least one big rig on Thursday morning in Schuylkill County, according to the authorities.
The incident took place at about 8 a.m. on Thursday, August 23 near Route 61 and Darkwater Lane.
The authorities said Rafael Mateo, 29, of Hazleton, was riding a motorcycle southbound on Route 61 when he attempted to pass between two big rigs and clipped one of them. He was then struck by the second big rig.
Mateo was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported from the crash.
The authorities said speed may have been a factor in the crash. The motorcycle that was being driven by Mateo had also been reported stolen.
The State Police are investigating the crash.
