Michael Bailey ID’d as Person Killed in Kiski Township Truck Crash on Route 56
Kiski Township, Pennsylvania (September 19, 2018) – The person who was killed Wednesday morning in a traffic accident in Kiski Township has been identified as Bob Bower, Michael Shane Bailey, 35, of Vandergrift, according to a report by Armstrong County Deputy Coroner.
The fatal accident happened at about 9:00 a.m. on Route 56.
Authorities said Bailey was a passenger in a small dump truck belonging to Cutting Edge Lawn Care and Landscaping, which was traveling away from Apollo on Route 56.
For an unknown reason, the truck then collided with a coal tractor-trailer heading toward Apollo in the area of Lutheran Church Road.
Bailey was killed in the crash while the unidentified operator of the dump truck was transported to the hospital in Pittsburgh.
The identity of the tractor-trailer driver was not immediately released.
Township police along with a state police reconstruction team responded to the scene.
As of 1 p.m., Route 56 remained blocked in both directions between Balsiger and Ridge roads. It was unclear how much longer the road would remain blocked.
Due to the road closure, the Apollo-Ridge School District announced its high school and middle school would be dismissing students at 2 p.m. to allow buses to get back for the elementary school run.
The crash remains under investigation.
