88-Year-Old Reading Woman Genevieve Wawrzonek Killed in Exeter Township Crash on Route 422
Exeter Township Pennsylvania (January 24, 2018) – The woman who was fatally injured in a two-vehicle collision in Exeter Township Tuesday afternoon has been identified as 88-year-old Genevieve Wawrzonek from Reading, police said.
The deadly crash took place at around 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, on the eastbound side of the highway at Red Lane, just east of the Sheetz convenience store.
A preliminary investigation stated that a car, driven by Wawrzonek, was traveling east in the outer lane of 422 when the driver tried a left-hand turn across the inside lane of travel when it was hit a pickup truck driven eastbound.
The report stated that after the crash, the pickup truck came to rest broadside across the eastbound lanes and the car ended up in the front yard of a home.
The pickup sustained front-end damage while the car sustained severe damage to the driver’s side, as per the report.
Wawrzonek died as a result of the crash while the driver of the pickup truck was not hurt in the collision, police said.
According to the report, Route 422 East was shut down at Lincoln Road until around 4 p.m.
