2 Motorists Hurt in Young Township Crash on Route 119

Young Township, Pennsylvania (January 23, 2018) – Two people were injured following a two-car crash in Young Township, Jefferson County Thursday night, according to Punxsutawney-based State Police.

The incident took place at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 18, on State Route 119, in Young Township, Jefferson County.

The state police said that a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 21-year-old Rebekah J. Shilala, of DuBois, was traveling behind a 2016 Toyota Prius, driven by 65-year-old Ernest J. Minster, of Punxsutawney, south on State Route 119.

Minster slowed down his car to allow a deer to cross from the east to the west side of the roadway when his Toyota was struck on the rear by Shilala’s car which failed to slow down in time to avoid hitting the Toyota. After the impact, Shilala’s car came to rest just south of the point of impact, and the Chevrolet came to rest immediately after the collision.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries, Shilala was transported Punxsutawney Hospital for treatment by medics.

Officials said that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The Chevrolet was towed from the scene.
