Newton Square Man Dies in 2-Vehicle Collision on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square
Delaware County, Pennsylvania (December 28, 2017)– A man who died early Thursday morning after crashing his vehicle into a SEPTA bus Newtown Square has been identified as 50-year-old Donald Lee Rieck, of Newtown Square, police said.
The deadly crash took place at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, December 27, in the 3400 block of West Chester Pike in Newtown Square.
According to a police report, Rieck was operating a black Nissan Altima westbound on the 3400 block of West Chester Pike in Newtown Square when lost control of the car and rear-ended a the SEPTA bus. After the impact, Rieck’s vehicle proceeded along the side of the road before coming to rest in front of the bus.
Rieck was extricated from his vehicle and rushed to Paoli Hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries while the driver of the bus was taken to Mawr Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Riek was the only passenger in the Nissan, while the bus had two passengers who were not hurt in the crash, police said.
No further information regarding the crash was immediately available, but the incident remained under investigation.
